Introducing the latest renovation with my clients at First Mountain Realty… 201 Orange Rd in Montclair, NJ . This 5-bedroom, 3-bath Victorian built in 1875 has been completely renovated like-new. The first challenge in purchasing this dumpy multi-family was taking the closed up and chopped up layout to reenvision it with open concept and expansiveness to appeal to a modern buyer. By tweaking a few key walls, it allowed us to create a private living room, open concept family room/dining room, an expansive kitchen and a breakfast room with sliders leading to a new paver patio, a first floor in-law suite and two mudroom areas. On the second floor, two bedrooms combined to make a luxurious master suite with spa-like bath and walk-in closet, the old full bath turned into a fun laundry room, the additional bedrooms got an overhaul, a full bath got expanded and the tacky 2nd floor kitchen turned into the “teen dream” suite with walk-in closet and sitting room.
The design concept for this house was a modern take on vintage with a touch of farmhouse. I love to focus on WOW factors starting with the front porch, door and entry tile. I hand-cut the 201 numbers out of penny tile for the entry way. Some of the elements that really bring the design together are the oil rubbed bronze finishes, the vintage reproduction lighting, quatrefoil and circular flower patterns, dark stained wood floors, gray-stained wood and white wood cabinetry, handmade-look tile and as always lots of Carrara marble. I squeezed in two mudroom areas, one is hidden behind a sliding barn door in the kitchen. The staging took a few days to set up but really highlight all the home has to offer.
